God D****t!
Author: PyreSomebody I never met stole my ideas!! This is probably a problem that all writers have faced at one time or another. Here I’ll post my stories and the stories of others of great original plots or character ideas that all of the sudden became…not so original. Submit some and you’ll feel good about finally getting it out!
District 9 / Telecosm

Well, does that look familiar? That is the website for district nine, one of the coolest looking movies of the Summer (which I shall go see shortly). Now, a quick visit to it’s Rotten Tomatoes page and you’ll see one critic rave is the most common: “One of the most original plots in/of _____ ____ etc.” Now, it saddens me to realize that because of this plot, the once super original plot I had for my second book, Telecosm, is now but a carbon copy of this movie. Just…replace the futuristic, insectesoid (did I spell that right?), extraterrestrials with a whole cluster of my own extra-dimensional races, like Nevii or Gar or Mizukusagi. So, now I have to do something else with them when they get stranded on Earth, or just something completely different. Either way, my once awesome plot is now not so awesome.
Maximum Ride

I know exactly what you mean. The same thing happened to me about… two years ago, with the book “Maximum Ride”. I was all excited about my plot and everything, and I was describing it to my brother. See, the plan was to have these characters that were genetically engineered and given wings. And then my brother delivered this dream-crushing sentence: “Hey, that sounds like Maximum Ride!” Then he proceeded to list the reasons why my plot was so unoriginal. I could’ve killed (or at least broken the arm of) James Patterson, the author of Maximum Ride.
